About Us
Who are we?
Leicestershire Bonsai Club was formerly known as Wigston Bonsai Club which started in 1992. And currently, as far as we are aware, the only bonsai club in the county of Leicestershire.
We are a small, friendly, members’ owned constituted club, based in Whitwick, near Coalville. Our purpose is to develop an interest in, and further the knowledge of, the art of bonsai and to encourage people to become involved in this fascinating pastime. The membership consists of both men and women of all bonsai abilities from beginner’s through to people with many years of experience. We welcome visitors and new members, no matter what their experience level. See our Contact page to get in touch. We welcome your enquiries.
What we do?
This website has been started to give you an idea of what we do, so feel free to browse.
The emphasis during our meetings is on practical bonsai techniques of re-potting, pruning, wiring, styling etc. and we try to have a guest speaker or two during the year to share their expertise on bonsai matters. We organise monthly Members’ Workshops in the Spring to Autumn season. The club is also represented at a number of shows displaying members’ trees giving recognition of the club. At these shows we display not only the refined trees of the more experienced members, but trees in all stages of development to demonstrate areas of work. This gives the less experienced members and those starting out in this hobby the chance to display their trees. There is an annual display for the Club Competition. The winning member is awarded the club’s trophy for 12 months and their achievement is engraved as a record. We also have a club raffle that runs all year and offers a good prize to a lucky recipient.
See our monthly reports on the Bonsai Blogs page, and Pictures and Videos sections for further information.
Where and When do we meet?
Come along and see what we are all about. Our regular meetings are held at:
The Park Hall
in Whitwick Park
off North Street, Whitwick
Leicestershire, LE67 5HB
The meeting place is a modern equipped, council-owned community hall with disabled access facilities and a spacious car park immediately in front of the building.
Meetings start at 6.30pm, usually on the first Tuesday of every month January to December. If you are new to bonsai and starting without a tree to bring, that is ok. First meeting is complimentary and you can come and find out what is needed, or bring your tree to the meeting for advice. We welcome all abilities and will be pleased to see you.
See our Programme page for details of planned activities.
